The noise is loud and the action chaotic.

Simple Slave Auction Stage Plan
This simple slave auction stage setup was designed for the Castle by Kurt VanVoorhies of DeTour Village, Michigan for a small courtyard auction that they called "Wack the Subbies", originally developed by David Rhinhard of DeTour Village. Kurt was thrilled to discover Kee Klamp and Simplified Building Concepts while investigating a solution for this design, which needed to be cost effective and simple to install.

The pipe framework was constructed by Jay Dudeck, of DeTour Village, and assembled by him together with other volunteers in just over 17 hours. *Here is what Kurt, a world famous, slave stage contractor, had to say about putting this project together:*
?first assemble the trapezoidal framework on top of a 'remains to be specified' platform (illustrated in the 28 attached drawings *ernie looks for the drawings and they are no where to be found, he gulps as he remembers that the envelope these plans came in seemed pretty heavy when he tossed them into the furnace*), ?and then to insert the 64 vertical posts down through the fittings, two of them through the 61-5 fittings, the remainder into four custom 9? long blocks that I made from 1.75? x 8? stock in which I cut grooves to accept the vertical pipes. These blocks were bolted to the sides of the platform to provide for ?rigidizing? the vertical poles and to keep them from bending. The trapezoidal assembly was then lifted up the vertical pipes and secured thereto at the working height.

The original slave stage specs called for 1.5? pipe, and was slightly larger in span and height than ours. (Our platform is 18' wide, the specs called for a 12' wide platform with a 10' span between the central vertical posts). ? the framework ? is quite rigid, even though we used ?? pipe. The slave stage uses drapes that are hung from the sides of the vertical pipes. We are going to use hose clamps to secure hooks to these pipes for this purpose.

?Meses wanted to change the toilet seat, but couldn't get the old one off. So meses tried wrenches until meses rounded off the nuts (meses was turning them the wrong way because theyses were upside down) and then meses decided to get meses trusty cold chisel and hammer out. Well, meses tapped a bit on it with no success, so meses drew back the hammer to smite a mighty blow against the stubborn bolt. In so doing meses broke the toilet tank and flooded the area with cold water. This cold water ran over the cord to meses electric drill and it giveded meses a shock and meses drew back in a hurry dropping the hammer into the wash sink causing a big chunk of the porcelain to pop off the bottom of the sink.

Meses regroupeded meses thoughts, and meses ran down to the Castle basement two floors below to shut off the water to the Castle, the Castle had no other valves installed when it was built in the 1690's. Meanwhile water was flooding through the floors of the other stalls and leaked into the Castle kitchen that is on the other side of the last stall and had dripped through the floor and saturated the plaster of the ceiling below to the point it collapsed into the Hot Tub room.

Meses then removed what was left of the toilet tank, and tried to remove the bowl from the floor flange. It wouldn't budge either, so out comes the trusty chisel and hammer again, and "WHACK" no more toilet bowl. In the process however, meses managed to tear the closet flange from the floor as well, and since it was attached to a lead closet bend, it tore and now needed to be replaced too.

Meses then determined that it would be necessary to cut out the tee in the stack where the closet bent was attached since meses had no idea how to repair old lead piping. Meses thought using that nifty PVC from Home Depot would do the trick. So meses tried to cut the cast iron stack with a hacksaw to no avail, then tried a sawzall, also fruitless, so.... yep, out comes the good old chisel and hammer, but a bigger hammer this time.

Meses whacks on the stack a few mighty blows and Viola' it splits into
several pieces with one tiny segment still holding it all together. So meses pried the last vestige of solid pipe out of the wall with a crowbar and suddenly the remaining section of pipe (the vent going through the Castle roof) lets go and with a mighty crash comes down and out of the wall through the sub floor into the now plaster less ceiling of the Hot Tub room, continues its downward decent until it hits the TV set, ricocheting off that and through the floor of the Hot Tub room until it hit the electrical panel plunging the Castle into total darkness and finally comes to rest after shearing off the main water shut off valve flooding the basement.
