Ok, for a change of pace....I will tell you that I like those fluff books...

ROMANCE NOVELS....*G*

Though I have read...The Thornbirds and Edgar Allen Poe Stories.

Nora Roberts is my current favorite Author...her books doen't seem to be too smutty...though they are kinda predictable once you've read 20 or so...*G* She has dealt with Wiccan Topics and Mystery(she also writes suspense novels under a different name...can't think of it now) She has written several trilogies...and had some books made into movies.

I also love LaVyrle Spencer...a local woman from the midwest who wrote some historical romance. I wished she hadn't retired.

hmmm... anything and everything by Charles deLint. a new genre sprang up around him and his cohorts... urban myth. really good stuff. go read it. *nods lots*

Kushiel's Dart, Chosen, and Avatar... by Jacqueline Carey (i think). will appeal to anyone here with a nose for S&m.

anything Diana Gabaldon does is fabulous.

currently, i'm reading the Memoirs of Cleopatra by Margaret George. its a fantastic read, and i wish i had more time and brain power to devote to it. she's a fabulous author who really brings ancient worlds to life. she also wrong the Autobiography of Henry VIII. her books are rather large, so set aside some time for her... get lost in a far-away time.

I'm with Hotspur and Mini. Totally addicted to Pratchett...however my fave is no a discworld book...but his collaboration with comic writer Neil Gaiman on Good Omens...a comic and irreverent twist on the apocalypse!...especially the Other Four Horsemen of the apocalypse!...you gotta laugh at a Horseman called' treading in dog shit'!!!!

Still laugh at it and I've read it umpteen times!

I am currently reading a book recomended to me by my instructor in a Women's Self Deffence seminar I went to.
"The Gift of Fear"
by Gavin De Becker
ISBN:0-440-22619-8
This book is about how to use our natural safety alarms and how to listen to them to help save us from harm. So far it is a very good book, and also very enjoyable to read... It reads in parts like a Grisham novle, but is serious and very helpful. I highly recomend this book to everyone. It's very important to be aware of our personal safety... not just for ourselves but for our families and all those who need us here still.

Well I havn't been in the Castle much recently... trying to get back more, miss my buds!

But one of the many things I've been doing rt that has been keeping me so bussy is reading... So on that note... here is a quick note about some good books I've found.

Black Elk Speaks... quite a good book. This was a man who saw some very profound times in history that have great pertinance for what is still going on today... not just in the Native American v.s. government aspects (though those are there) but in the larger spiritual battle and healing that is still going on in our country and the world today. The only thing is that at the end of his life Black Elk felt he had failed his people, and having read this story I think he just didn't see how much good he had done and is currently still doing post-humulously. REading this book I just wanted to reach through the pages and hug the man all teary eyed and tell him all the good he had done! (sniff sniff)

Beginer's Mind Zen Mind... Ok, I read this because it was recomended to me by no less than five people as "the best book ever written on zen mediation". Having read it, I must whole heartedly agree... this is not a fru fur touchy feeling goofy book on Zazen. This book is very very good at actualy helping you meditate and recognize WHY you are meditating (cause that's important!) It's not pretentious, it's deep but readable... and I think you could read it once a year and every time get more and more out of it! Very good book! I recomend for Christians, Pegans, Buhdists, Jews, "aethiests"... etc... this is just a darn helpful book for living a healthy life.

Essence of Ninjutsu... Ok ok, this might not be for everyone... but I am finding a lot of deep stuff in between the lines... it was a gift from my sister for Christmas so I am only about 20pages in, but already I've read life altering coolness like three times!!!! But it's an excellent book on the history of the Ninja in Japan, and talks about Ninja in a very real way. Nijutsu is training to live well, to survive, as counterposed to the Samuri who trained to die well... much harder to live well your whole life than have one moment of "glory" at the end of it. I keep thinking of the suiside bombers v.s. those who are fighting them litteraly and figuratively (all over the world, at Columbine and in the down town streets of every city, where people who want to live well are standing up agains those who want to die with a bang and take someone else with them.) No offence meant to those who LOVE historical Samuri. Historicaly there have been good and bad Samuri and ninja... not my point... just thinking on the larger scale of the mind set of those who are focused on death v.s. those focused on life... Much harder to be a mother than to be a drug adict, much harder to be a Soldier than suicide bomber... etc... like I said this book while talking about Ninjutsu talks about some very enlightened cool stuff. Especialy if you think about it a little... very Japanese.
